How
the game played
The
French suffered quite heavy losses from the German fire as they closed with the
Germans defending the edge of the town losing 2 of their infantry squads. The French 75 proved to be fairly ineffective
with lots of rolls of 1 and 2! The
Highlight was when both sides cavalry appeared.
The French cuirassiers won the cavalry melee on the main road and then
charged and broke a German infantry unit before sweeping into town to get out
of the arc of fire of the deadly German MMGs.
By that time the French had worn down and broken the other 2 German infantry
units. The cuirassiers then circled
behind the dismounted Uhlans who turned and missed with all 6 shots! We ended the game at that point as it was a clear
French victory. Who says that cavalry
has no role in 1914!

Everyone
agreed that it was an enjoyable game. Most
of the figures are by Renegade but the Cuirassiers, French command, French 75
and dismounted Uhlans are by Great War Miniatures. I allowed cavalry units which had not acted
to countercharge as a reaction. The
other changes to the rules are below with the weapon chart.

A great looking game alright. looking forward to seeing more
ReplyDeleteI always thought that Warlord would be going one way or the other with respect to wars. Maybe WW 1 maybe the direction they are going see that Britain was so involved with it and it covered such a wide range of countries. And being American from that era, I'd rather see the Great War covered than the Hate War frankly. I've seen that one already and it wasn't interesting the first time. And the tanks are really interesting.
ReplyDeleteExcellent looking game!
ReplyDeleteExcellent stuff Bill!
ReplyDeleteNice looking game Bill!
ReplyDeleteI thought you might have given the French 75 some other special rule to represent their famous fast rate of fire?
Did you alter the cavalry combat rules after the result of our game at Hugh's?
Dave.
DeleteI decided to give the French 75 a higher penetration than the German 77 as it's advantage.
Yes after the cavalry actions at Hugh's I made a few changes - decided to allow cavalry which have not acted or are in ambush to counter-charge as a reaction and cavalry only get 1 hit vs cavalry and 2 vs infantry. I think my simple rule about French Elan worked well - it makes them equal to veterans for command/morale when advancing on the enemy.
Great looking pictures, love your French army!
